Lloyds Pharmacy to close Suffolk Sainsbury's branches, including in Ipswich, Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury, putting jobs at risk

Thousands of jobs are at risk nationwide as Lloyds Pharmacy looks set to pull out of 237 Sainsbury's stores, including in Suffolk.

According to Sky News, the pharmacy, which has branches in Ipswich, Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds, Sudbury and Thetford, will be closing them down over the course of the year 'in response to changing market conditions'.

It has operated the network since 2015, although a number have closed in recent years.

In total, six pharmacies will shut in Suffolk, including Thetford:

The affected branches are:

  • Bury St Edmunds, Bedingfeld Way
  • Ipswich, Hadleigh Road
  • Ipswich, Warren Heath
  • Thetford, Forest Retail Park
  • Haverhill, Haycocks Road
  • Sudbury, Cornard Road

Individual branches will be put up for sale.

It has yet to be confirmed how many roles are at risk.

Kevin Birch, chief executive of Lloyds Pharmacy, said: "This decision has not been an easy one and we understand that our patients and customers may have questions about how the change will affect them.

"We would like to thank them for their continued support and assure them that we are committed to providing a smooth transition over the coming months."
