Seasalt Cornwall, with stores in Bury St Edmunds, Southwold, Woodbridge and Aldeburgh, considers cutting several jobs

A clothing brand with four stores in Suffolk has announced it is considering redundancies across the business.

Seasalt Cornwall, with more than 60 branches across the UK and Ireland, including in Bury St Edmunds, Southwold, Woodbridge and Aldeburgh, said it is considering cutting several jobs.

It is unclear if staff at the Suffolk shops will be affected, but the firm said it will be offering its employees support throughout the consultation process over the coming weeks.

The company said it was not immune to the challenges facing the retail industry, which include increased tax burdens, rising inflation and a decline in custom.

In a statement, it added: “In order to meet the challenges presented by an ever-changing retail industry, the majority of those beyond our control, Seasalt must remain agile so that we can protect our business long-term.”

“As a result, unfortunately, a number of roles will be placed at risk of redundancy across the business.

“We never take these incredibly difficult decisions lightly and give considerable thought to alternative options first.”

Seasalt opened its first store in Penzane, in Cornwall, in 1981.
