Primark addresses delayed opening of Bury St Edmunds store

Primark has addressed the delayed opening of its new Bury St Edmunds store.

The fashion retailer was due to welcome customers to the highly-anticipated branch, on the ground and first floors of the former Debenhams at the arc Shopping Centre, by the end of this year.

However, signs in the window on Friday said the store is set to open in 2024.

SuffolkNews approached Primark as to why the opening was delayed.

A spokesman said: “When we announce a new store, there are so many factors to take into consideration – while we always aim to give an accurate time frame to the best of our knowledge at the time, sometimes this will change depending on when we take possession of the building as it's only then we can begin getting the store ready.

“We're looking forward to opening our Bury St Edmund's store soon, and we think that it will be worth the wait.”

The new branch will create 90 jobs and the company has recently posted vacancies for a team manager, department managers and an assistant manager.

Everyman Cinema is set to move into the basement of the empty department store.
