Elmswell Park Stud near Bury St Edmunds on the market for £5.75m
A Suffolk stud farm that has played a pivotal role in breeding some of the world’s finest racehorses is on the market.
Elmswell Park Stud near Bury St Edmunds – part of the internationally renowned Shadwell Stud operation – has been used principally as a base for foaling thoroughbred broodmares.
The property is now on sale with property advisors Savills with a guide price of £5,750,000 and is available as a whole or in two lots.
The farm extends to around 121 acres and as well as the stud and associated equestrian facilities, includes Elmswell New Hall, a Grade II listed six-bedroom Georgian home.
Also part of the sale is a three/four bedroom detached cottage and two newly built three bedroom properties.
The extensive equestrian facilities include a 40 box stable block, foaling barn, veterinary room, horse walker, former stallion unit, Dutch barn, office and workshop.
Although well suited to their current use, the 2,700m sq of high quality buildings may offer an opportunity for alternative commercial uses, subject to obtaining appropriate planning permission.
Along with 15 acres of gardens and grounds there is also 91 acres of high quality, well-fenced paddocks and 14 acres of additional woodland.
William Hargreaves, who leads the rural agency team for Savills in Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, said: “Shadwell is synonymous with breeding excellence and the equestrian facilities at Elmswell Park are exceptionally high quality and well equipped.
"We anticipate it being of great interest to a wide range of buyers including equestrian users, lifestyle buyers and those with a commercial ambition to take advantage of its extensive facilities in a highly convenient location."
