Nick Pope, England Football Team goalkeeper, speaks in podcast set up by head of sport at West Suffolk College, Bury St Edmunds
An international footballer has spoken about what it took for him to make it to the top in a new podcast launched by the head of sport at a Bury St Edmunds college.
England goalkeeper Nick Pope spoke to Anthony Harvey at West Suffolk College in the first of a number of shows in The Extra Mile podcast, which will explore success in the sport industry.
Pope, who currently plays for Premier League side Burnley but started off at Bury Town Football Club and also attended West Suffolk College, managed to find some time out of his busy schedule to speak to Anthony about his career trajectory.
Anthony, whose idea it was to set up the podcast, said: “I am trying to release a new set of podcasts essentially trying to raise the sports students aspirations.
“If we are trying to raise aspirations, who better to speak to than an international footballer.”
In the episode, Anthony spoke to Nick about his time at West Suffolk College, and the values he learned there like discipline and respect.
He said Nick was an example of what his students could achieve if they ‘knuckled down’ and worked hard.
“Nick was always the first person at training and always the first to leave,” Anthony said.
Anthony is keen to speak to a number of other reputable people in the industry, and hopes it will help to inspire some of the many sports students at the college.
“We’ve got 200 students across the college and it’s about motivation and getting into mindsets,” he said.
The Extra Mile Podcast will launch some time after Easter.
