Imaginative designs in Brandon’s blooming barrows
Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz and The Lord of the Rings were among the imaginiative entries for Brandon in Bloom’s second wheelbarrow competition.
The 13 entries, based on this year’s theme of children’s literature, were on display in the town’s market square on Sunday.
Barrows were submitted by schools, businesses and community groups including Glade Primary School, Friends of Brandon Library, Brandon Scouts, and town’s St Nicholas Hospice Care shop and Tesco superstore.
After being assessed by the competition’s judges, Lilac Lane Hair & Beauty’s Where The Wild Things Are barrow was crowned the winner.
Joint second places went to Wild About Brandon’s The Window in the Willows, The Tale of Peter Rabbit by the town council and Brandon Canrival’s Charlotte’s Web.
Rachel Sobiechowski, of Brandon in Bloom, said: “The imagination people put into it was just incredible. I was astounded by the quality of the barrows.
“Entrants were only given £20 to spend on their flowers and what they achieved was amazing. It was only the second competition but everyone had definitely upped their game.”
Rachel, who works at P&R Garden Supplies, said interest is already growing for next year’s competition, with Brandon in Bloom planning other events in the interim.
