Hundreds take to road for annual Thurston fun run
Hundreds laced up their running shoes, pinned on a number and took to the road at this year’s Thurston Fun Run.
The event on Sunday May 1, which this year celebrated its ninth year, saw 275 runners take on a 3km or 10km tour around the village and surrounding area.
One of the event organisers, Peter Skoyles, said this year’s run was the best they had ever had.
“It was excellent,” he said. “We had lots of children taking part in the fun run this year as well.
“When we started we had 80 people take part and it has grown since then. It is probably the village’s biggest event now.
“The weather was a real bonus this year – we were really blessed.”
This year’s run also gave residents the chance to look over the results of the recent village survey on facilities for youngsters.
As a result of the survey, outline plans for a Fitness Trail and new play equipment were on display at the New Green Community Centre.
Roger Smith of New Green Community Trust said: “We have a mandate from the community, and the steering group is now working on the detail and permissions required.”
