Mum from Moreton Hall estate, in Bury St Edmunds, issues warning after almost being hit by car on zebra crossing, in Symonds Road

A mum has warned a zebra crossing on the Moreton Hall estate has become a ‘total hazard’ with people mindlessly driving over it without stopping.

This morning, Olive Quinn, 29, was almost hit by a car while on the crossing in Symonds Road, Bury St Edmunds, and reported what happened to police.

Olive, who lives on the estate, said: “There have been so many complaints for months about people mindlessly whizzing over it, not giving anyone a chance to finish crossing.

“This morning if I had my three-year-old walking with me, he absolutely would have been hit.

“How long does it need to be before someone actually does get hit?”

“It's right near a school, a park with dog walkers, car parks, there's just too much at stake to keep sweeping it under the carpet.

“It's supposed to be a safe crossing but it's the farthest thing from it”.

The incident was reported to police shortly before 9am.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Police said: “We received reports of a near-miss collision near Moreton Hall Church in, Symonds Road.”

Officers have arranged to speak to the pedestrian involved later today.
