Horses inspire Bury St Edmunds artist’s exhibition for Norfolk equine charity

A Bury St Edmunds student has woven her love of art and horses into a college project, organising an event in aid of a Norfolk equine charity.

Susie Griffin, 25, an events management student at West Suffolk College, has organised an equestrian art exhibition at the Edmund Gallery, near St Edmundsbury Cathedral.

Featuring mainly her own work, all proceeds from the event will go towards World Horse Welfare, an charity based near Snetterton which helps neglected, abandoned and mistreated horses in the UK and Europe.

Susie, who lives on Moreton Hall, said: “As part of the syllabus we have to organise an event. I knew I would have to do something, so I thought, why not do something useful?

“I decided to develop something that used both my skills - events management and art. I wanted to make it worthwhile and make it benefit someone.

“Other artists will be involved, but it is mostly my own work. It means I’ve been spending every evening painting a picture to display.”

Opening on Saturday, April 4, the exhibition will begin at 10am with a private viewing for participating artists before it opens to the public at 11am.

Roly Owers, chief executive of World Horse Welfare, said: “We are so grateful to Susie for devoting her time to organise this fantastic event to help horses in desperate need.

“The challenge has never been greater as thousands of horses in Britain are at risk of neglect and abandonment.

“This exhibition provides a wonderful example of how many different ways there are to help us reach more horses.”

The exhibition runs until Wednesday, April 8.
