Bury St Edmunds clock above Dipples Jewellers, formerly Thurlow Champness & Son, taken in for repair to ensure it continues to tick over

Eagle-eyed shoppers have spotted that a familiar sight in a Bury St Edmunds street is looking a bit different this morning.

The clock above Dipples Jewellers, formerly Thurlow Champness & Son, in Abbeygate Street is missing its mechanism and part of its clock face.

The clock, which has been a familiar sight in the town for over 120 years, has been sent away for repair to ensure it continues to tick over.

Sales assistant Heather Friend said: "Somebody came to collect it to take it off to get it mended. Hopefully it won't be too long.

"It is over a hundred years old so it does need looking after."

It is not known when the clock will be back in full working order. Picture: Mecha Morton
