Funeral of Bury St Edmunds teenager Liam Neathey will take place at Risby Crematorium on June 29

The mum of a Suffolk teenager is calling on people to walk him off the estate he loved one final time ahead of a celebration of his life.

Liam Neathey, 16, of Bury St Edmunds, died earlier this month after being diagnosed with cancer three times.

The former Tollgate Primary School and King Edward VI School pupil has been described by his mum Diane McEwan, 34, as a character that was loved by everybody.

His celebration of life service will take place on Saturday, June 29, at Risby Crematorium - starting at 10.30am.

Diane wants people on the Mildenhall Estate to line the streets from the family home in Samson Close to Lake Avenue, from 9.45am.

She said: “As Liam drives past please walk behind the family and help walk my beautiful boy off the estate one last time.”

Everyone is then asked to meet at the crematorium for the service.

Speaking last week, Diane said: “Hundreds of kids from the estate are going to miss Liam.”

Anyone who knew the teenager is welcome at the crematorium and are being encouraged to wear a Manchester United shirt or dress in black. The wake will be for close friends and family only.

Since Liam was given a terminal diagnosis in September he had spent time making memories with his siblings Rhys, 17, Joshua 14, and Ella 10 and his girlfriend Lilia, 15.

A gofundme page has been set up to raise money for the service.

Cash donations can be made at the Lake Avenue Post Office and Store.
