Bury St Edmunds Farm Foods, in Barton Road, can open for longer after West Suffolk Council planning decision

A Bury St Edmunds supermarket can now open for longer after planning approval was granted.

Farm Foods, in Barton Road, has been given permission by West Suffolk Council to increase its opening hours from 7am-11pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am-6pm on Sundays.

The planning application, submitted by Terry Sprigings, of Sprigings Proeprty Investments, also asked for amended delivery hours – 6.30am-8pm Monday to Saturday and 8am-6pm on Sundays – as well as alterations to the external elevations, car park layout and servicing arrangements. These changes were also approved.

No objections were received.

A planning officer report said: “The proposed changes in this variation relate purely to the hours of operation, with no changes to the external appearance of the building. Therefore, there will be no adverse impact on the existing character of the area or wider street scene.

“Given the degree of separation and intervening highway it is not considered that there would be any adverse impact on the residential amenity currently enjoyed by the occupiers of the neighbouring properties.”
