Abbots Green Academy in Bury St Edmunds is congratulated by Schools Minister Damian Hinds for progress in reading, writing and maths Key Stage 2 assessments
A Suffolk school has been praised by a Government minister for recent academic progress that places it amongst the top five per cent of primaries in the country.
Damian Hinds MP, Minister for Schools, congratulated Abbots Green Academy on Moreton Hall, Bury St Edmunds, for the ‘very high level of progress’ that pupils there demonstrated in the reading, writing and mathematics Key Stage 2 assessments last year.
Abbots Green’s results, which were published in December, show progress scores of 4.5, 4.4 and 6.3 in reading, writing and mathematics respectively.
“This means that in terms of the progress your pupils make between Key Stage 1 and the end of Key Stage 2, your school is amongst the top 5 per cent of primary schools in the country,” said Mr Hinds in a letter addressed to headteacher Ang Morrison.
The letter also said: “The government wants to ensure that every child has the fluency in reading, writing and mathematics necessary to prepare them for a successful secondary education and beyond, which is why I was delighted to see your results.
“Thank you for your work in continuing the drive towards higher academic standards, and congratulations again to you and your staff for your commitment and success.”
Mrs Morrison spoke of the pride she has for the staff, pupils and families on receiving the letter.
“For our KS2 (Key Stage 2) results to be recognised as being in the top five per cent in the country is an incredible achievement for our school and wider community,” she said.
“I would like to share my admiration and thanks to the hard working, dedicated staff and families of Abbots Green in supporting our unique vision to making this happen.
“We should be incredibly proud of our school.”
The school is part of Unity Schools Partnership.
