Bury St Edmunds gallery returns to town

A familiar name has returned to Bury St Edmunds with the opening of the Wildwood Gallery in High Baxter Street.

Kevin and Jo Youngman ran their gallery in Churchgate Street for nine years between 2002 and 2011 and, at the end of their lease, continued their picture framing business at Fornham Magna.

Now they have returned to Bury with their gallery – which opens tomorrow – showing contemporary art. People can view and buy artworks and also place orders for framing which will continue at the couple’s bespoke picture framing business at Fornham Magna.

Kevin said: “We really missed being in Bury as we have a very good customer base here. There are very good galleries in Bury and we hope we can complement what they offer.”

The couple have a background in picture framing and art and design and when Kevin was made redundant they moved to this area and he was able to turn the idea into reality.

He said: “Bury is a very good place to be. You have places like the Apex and the Hunter and others all doing their own thing. This makes Bury more interesting and gives people a good choice.

“We believe in the high street and Bury is a nice, positive, growing market town. We’re confident we’ll do well. We know what we’ve done before and we just love the place.”

The gallery will open Wednesday to Friday 10am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 5pm. Artists showing are Anita Kline, Kevin Southgate, who lives in Bury, Lesley Jones and Matthew Phelps.
