Fun-filled activities for Bury St Edmunds school’s charity bonanza

An array of fun-filled fund-raising activities have swept through the corridors of a leading Bury St Edmunds school for its annual charity drive.

Gladiators, All Star Mr and Mrs, a sponsored leg waxing, talent show, charity concert and sponsored ice skating trip were among the events at County Upper School, in Beeton’s Way.

The initiative was launched in 1985 and has so far raised about £250,000 for various organisations.

Charities set to benefit this year are Save the Children, Macmillan, the British Heart Foundation, East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Papworth Trust.

Head Vicky Neale said: “It’s a really special time of year.

“Everybody supports each other and lessons go on uninterrupted.

“There’s a fantastic atmosphere from the youngest Year 9 to the oldest Year 13.”

Other fund-raising activities included popping balloons to win £5 which the winning student then donated and a carol service in St Mary’s Church.

Last year’s charity bonanza raised £14,713.

This year’s final total will be unveiled at a presentation today.
