Bury St Edmunds residents enter row with Havebury Housing over dust

It may have covered up potholes, but a stone chipping surface has brought residents of Fitzgerald Walk further grief, they have said.

Havebury Housing has apologised after their repair work led to residents of the Bury St Edmunds estate reporting that surface dust has been a greater nuisance.

Gordon Jones, of Fitzgerald Walk, said: “My car has been covered with dust from the surface of the gravel and the same has happened to a neighbour’s garage.

“I have even got some in my socks, somehow.

“The forecourt is owned by Havebury and I have told them they have wasted their money. They should have put Tarmac down instead.

“I am not satisfied with their response.”

Havebury Housing said: “We resurfaced the forecourt at Fitzgerald Walk last November as it was becoming a hazard to members of the public.

“Tar and stone chippings were used during these works as they are hardwearing and cost-effective.

“We are sorry to hear that members of the public have been experiencing disruption caused by some loose chips on the new surface. However, a road sweep of the area has been undertaken to remove any loose chippings.”
