Abbeygate Cinema Bury St Edmunds reopening: Star Wars, Mamma Mia and 1917 among the film slate
A Bury St Edmunds cinema is to reopen with a feel-good rom-com and some old favourites.
Abbeygate Cinema, in Hatter Street, will welcome back film-goers on Friday (July 10) with matinee/teatime screenings of new film titles, hits of the last few years and audience requests.
It will start with romantic comedy Love Sarah starring Celia Imrie, Rupert Penry-Jones and Bill Paterson; Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again! which won Abbeygate's recent Facebook poll for favourite film from the top five films in five years; The Empire Strikes Back and screenings of Sam Mendes’ First World War epic 1917.
Abbeygate is the first cinema in the town to reopen following Cineworld's decision to put back its launch date until the end of the month.
Andrea Holmes, marketing manager, said: "We’re very excited about opening our cinema screens again following our period of closure due to COVID-19.
"For a few weeks, we will be the only cinema open in town and we hope this will be an opportunity for both existing and new customers to pop down and enjoy a film with us in a safe environment.
"Moving forward we plan to increase our opening hours and build the film programme content as new releases become available all leading to the unveiling of our new premier screen with its full-size screen and state of the art projector at the end of July."
