Fresh plans to convert Goodfellows, in Kings Road, Bury St Edmunds, to three homes and six apartments lodged

Fresh plans to convert a long-empty block of eco-flats to homes and apartments have been lodged.

M&D Developments has applied to West Suffolk Council to repurpose the Goodfellows building, in Kings Road, Bury St Edmunds, to three houses and six apartments.

The developer purchased the site, which has been empty for several years, from Havebury Housing Partnership in March.

It origininally comprised 12 flats, and was built in 2008, and has not been livable since 2021.

The proposals would create a replacement building with four one-bedroom flats, two two-bedroom apartments and three homes with three bedrooms.

They would all be accessed from its street front, meaning the back of the site could be used for gardens and private spaces for the properties.

The main pedestrian access would be off Parkway.

The new development would incorporate a ‘bay window’ feature inspired by the town.

There would be a bin storage area on the ground floor on the Kings Road side of the building.

A planning statement described the proposals as a ‘modern take’ on the terrace, punctuated with traditional features.

The building would not have car parking.
