Bury St Edmunds Business Improvement District announces free motorsport event with exhibition of cars
Our Bury St Edmunds has announced the return of a free-admission motorsport event next month, in support of East Anglian Air Ambulance.
Motorsport East will exhibit over 60 competition vehicles.
The event is set to take over the town centre on July 24, between 10am and 4pm.
Among the star exhibits scheduled for the day is a Ford Escort RS 1700T driven by former rallycross driver Brian Betteridge.
The car is the only running example of its make left in the world, having been built as a prototype.
It has recently been restored, having been returned to the UK from South Africa.
Members of the public will be able to make use of a racing car simulator in Charter Square at the arc shopping centre.
Laura Cooledge, a club development officer at Anglia Motor Sport Club, has been revealed as the show's special guest.
Ms Cooledge is a Women in Motorsport Ambassador, dedicated to encouraging female participation in racing-related activities.
Mark Cordell, chief executive of Our Bury St Edmunds, said: "We were overwhelmed with the success of last year's Motorsport East and the town centre was busy throughout the day.
"We are looking forward to seeing the Cornhill and Buttermarket transformed into a celebration of cars and motorsports.
"As with all Our Bury St Edmunds events though there will be much more to the day to enjoy - offering something for all the family."
