Four months of overnight closures on A14 between Bury St Edmunds and Elmswell to begin next month

A series of overnight closures on the A14 for road renewal works will begin next month.

Following the completion of the A1088 Bridge Farm Bridge project, National Highways will begin working on the A14 westbound, between junctions 47 at Elmswell and 43 in Bury St Edmunds, on April 22.

Then, by the end of June, the works will swap to the eastbound side, between junction 44 at Moreton Hall and 47a, towards Haughley.

The road will be shut between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday.

It is the second phase of the works which started in April 2024.

It is expected the closures will run until August.

This will include carriageway resurfacing, renewal of road marking and replacing traffic signs and traffic loops.

A National Highways spokesperson said the diversion will remain the same as last year, with traffic travelling westbound on the A14 signed off at J51 onto the A140 towards Scole, then A143 & A134 back to rejoin the A14 at J43.

This will be in reverse for the eastbound direction.

The spokesperson added, as with last year, there will be a safety camera van on the diversion and on the A1088 to combat speeding and reduce disruption.

After these works, National Highways will move onto renewals between junction 51, at Beacon Hill, and junction 47.
