Former RAF Mildenhall explosives storage site up for sale
For anyone who dreams of owning a piece of military history in the Suffolk countryside, the perfect property has just come on the market.
An RAF Mildenhall former explosives storage area has been put up for sale by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).
The 42-acre Ministry of Defence-approved site, in Beck Row, was used as an ammunitions store for 40 years.
In its site particulars agents GVA said: “The property comprises a standalone former explosives storage area which is separate to the main RAF Mildenhall facilities.”
The 17 hectare site is enclosed entirely by a chain-link fence, which should allay any safety concerns.
It can be reached by private tracks from Skelton’s Drove and Holywell Drove, but visitors beware - only some are concreted.
The accommodation, comprising 18 separate outbuildings, is estimated to cover almost 20,000 sq ft.
However, new occupants will have to reconnect the site to mains electricty, water and telephone.
