A former café in Bury St Edmunds is to be converted into a fish and chip restaurant.

Giles Henderson has submitted plans to West Suffolk Council to make alterations to the former Street Level Café, in Abbeygate Street, which closed in December after 34 years in the town.

The restaurant would be called Hendo's according to an application for advertisement consent.

An application for listed building consent includes plans to install openable bi-folding windows at the front of the property.

Mr Henderson also wants to install a new roof deck and replace existing joists and insulation to create a flat roof over the kitchen area.

The Street Level Café closed after owner Richard Bird retired.
