Former Bury St Edmunds nightclub submits new licensing application

A former Bury St Edmunds nightclub could be looking to reopen after submitting a licensing application earlier this month.

If successful, Club Brazilia, on Station Hill, will be permitted to open from 9pm-3am on Friday nights and from 9pm-3.30am on Saturday nights.

The application says the premises will advertise a clear ‘challenge 25’ policy encouraging anyone who looks under 25 to carry acceptable identification.

It says it will be ‘vigilant in preventing the use and sale of illegal drugs’, will adopt ‘a zero tolerance attitude’ to violence and anti-social behaviour and will participate in the local Pub Watch scheme.

It also states that CCTV will be used to address the prevention of crime and it will have ‘a minimum of two door staff at the entrance to the premises at all times during opening hours and at departure times’.

It lists Luke Watson, of Ely, as the premises supervisor.

Daniel Bird took over Club Brazilia in 2011 after its previous owner, Luminar Leisure, collapsed following the death of a woman at one of its clubs.

Last year, Mr Bird told the Bury Free Press he was reopening Vision night club and it would ‘take over from Brazilias’, which was due to be pulled down ‘for redevelopment’.
