Stanton Football Club fund-raising event featuring two former Premier League players raises more than £2300

A newly-formed football club raised £2300 after hosting a ‘heart-warming’ fund-raising event featuring two former Premier League players.

Gary Newman has only been running Stanton Youth FC for two seasons and wanted to raise the money to add more teams for different ages as well as buy new equipment, goals and other resources.

His ‘Sportsman’s Event’ at Stanton Village Hall last month helped raise the funds and also brought the community together with football enthusiasts and local businesses.

The guest speakers included Steve Walsh, who made 449 appearances for Leicester City, and Mark Crossley, who played 303 times for Nottingham Forest.

“The event was a great success, filled with laughter, outstanding guest speakers, and exciting auction items,” Mr Newman said.

“It was a memorable and enjoyable experience for all and it was heart-warming to see the community come together for a great cause.

“Our guest speakers were on top form, sharing hilarious experiences and stories from the professional game, including great quotes from the legendary Brian Clough.

“We are truly grateful for everyone's contributions and dedication to making this event a success.”

Stanton FC had one team last season and now has four sides entered in a league - U9’s, U10’s, U13’s and U16’s.

Mr Newman previously said: “We are looking to raise much-needed funds and this is what the event has been organised for.

“We started our Junior Reds journey back in 2022 to provide a platform where young boys and girls aged between six to 12 can grow, learn and excel both on and off the field.

“Our goal is to nurture talent, build confidence, promote teamwork and build discipline through the beautiful game.
