Food hampers with a festive twist devised by creative students

Youngsters at a Bury St Edmunds school have devised and built inventive themed structures and filled them with food for people in need this Christmas.

Classes in Year 7 and 8 at Sybil Andrews Academy were challenged to build food hamper structures with a festive twist.

Students produced a giant food-filled bauble, a chimney stack (complete with Santa’s legs and a stash of food donations), food-packed Christmas pudding and a Santa’s sleigh and reindeer.

Amanda Bloomfield, chief executive of Dettingen Way-based foodbank charity Gatehouse, which will distribute the donated food, visited Sybil Andrews on Monday to see the finished structures.

“All of them were really good and inventive. The children had put a lot of effort and time into it,” she said.
