Compiegne Way Bury St Edmunds amongst Suffolk roads worst affected by flooding this morning

Police have been called to road traffic incidents in Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, Capel St Mary and Lowestoft this morning, as heavy rain caused issues for drivers.

A police spokeswoman said though the incidents may not all have been caused by flooding, the control room did receive a high volume of calls earlier today.

Compiegne Way in Bury St Edmunds had to be closed due to the amount of the deep water on the road.

The police were first called to Compiegne Way at 6.30am this morning and then returned due to more flooding.

According to the police spokeswoman the area close to the sugar beet factory in Bury St Edmunds was one of the worst affected in the town.

Officers were also called to the A134 at Fornham St Martin due to a flooded carriageway - part of the road remains closed.

The police responded to calls from drivers at Sproughton near Ipswich and Millennium Way in Lowestoft.

This morning the A12 near Ipswich was closed at Capel St Mary following a crash between a motorbike and a car, which left a man injured.

The police spokeswoman said the disruption caused by the flooding on the roads seemed to be easing this afternoon.
