First therapist to bring Thai Yoga massage to region is back in business
The first massage therapist to practice Thai Yoga massage in East Anglia is returning to the business.
Suzi Griffin, of Out Risbygate, Bury St Edmunds, was taught the ancient therapy in 1997 by master trainer Kira Balakashas at the London School of Thai Yoga massage.
“When I started practicing in Bury I was the only one in East Anglia who did it,” she said.
“It is extremely successful in relieving back, neck and shoulder pain and leaves one feeling relaxed and relieved.
“It works on an energy line system relieving blockages which cause aches pains and unease.
“I use my hands, feet and elbows to apply pressure to areas of the body and use gentle stretching and applied Hatha yoga.”
Thai Yoga massage is believed to date back to the third century BC.
It took Suzi six months to learn the art - three months getting to grips with the techniques involved and another three months doing the 60 massages she needed for her certificate.
After a hiatus from massage, Suzi rediscovered her love of the techniques after doing a ‘massage swap’ with a Shiatsu masseuse.
“It reminded me of how much of a lovely thing it is to do and how much I loved it,” she said.
Suzi is looking to take appointments at her home in Bury on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings.
