British Firefighters Challenge is at the arc shopping centre on Friday and Saturday
More than 200 firefighters from across the UK and Europe will haul hoses, rescue dummy casualties and ascend a three-storey tower in Bury St Edmunds town centre on Friday and Saturday.
The Arc shopping centre is hosting the British Firefighter Challenge, which is set to push firefighters to their limits, provide entertainment for spectators and raise funds for the Firefighters Charity.
The event is free, with visitors also invited to see a new mobile education centre, meet firefighters and try on equipment.
The 20 firefighters from Suffolk competing include chief fire officer Mark Hardingham. He said: “I’m sure the centre of Bury St Edmunds will not have seen anything like it. The challenge itself is going to be really tough, but we’re hoping to do Suffolk proud.”
Cllr Richard Rout, Suffolk County Council cabinet member for environment and public protection, said: “With the start of the school holidays, we hope to see lots of families enjoying the event.”
Challenge events start at 10am both days. Go to www.britishfirefighterchallenge.co.uk for more information.
