Fire crews and police on scene of lorry fire near Bury train station
Fire crews and police are currently on the scene of a lorry fire near Bury St Edmunds train station.
The Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service and Suffolk Police were called to Thingoe Hill at 12.30pm to reports of an articulated lorry trailer on fire close to the rail yard. The fire service sent three vehicles to the scene.
A spokeswoman for the fire service said there were some small gas cylinders near the blazing trailer, but these have been moved to safety, and the few people who were in the area have also been moved away.
She said the trailer involved could ‘potentially’ be one used to move furniture, adding that it ‘doesn’t seem like the fire is growing’.
A spokeswoman for Suffolk Police said: “There are no smoke issues with the railway line and no issues around the A14, and no roads will have to be closed.”
She added that the fire service expect to have the incident ‘resolved shortly’.
