Organic farm shop reopens at Longwood Farm in Tuddenham
A farm shop has re-opened in Tuddenham aiming to continue the sustainable message of its previous occupiers.
Wilde & Greene at Longwood Farm opened on Saturday to continue the legacy left by Louise and Matthew Unwin who have been growing organic meat for the past 28 years.
The Unwins closed their farm shop in April and it has now been let to Jill and Matthew Morris and their daughter Libby.
Wilde & Greene has been delivering organic vegetable boxes for the last 10 years and has now opened its own shop.
The Unwins will continue to stock the shop with organic, grass fed meat, raw milk and Kefir which they produce on their 200 acre organic farm.
The couple will continue to work the farm and supply wholesale produce to London outlets but wanted to free up more of their time.
They have 60 cattle, 10 Jerseys, 100 sheep, pigs and chickens as well as 2,000 turkeys and geese being prepared for Christmas.
As well as their 200 acres they also rent the use of the neighbouring Cavenham Heath.
Louise said: “We wanted to see a bit more of life and Matthew was driving overnight to get to the London markets and we thought it was time to cut back. Now we are not under so much pressure.”
Libby, a passionate bird watcher, is hoping the shop will evolve into a community hub where people can take part in bird walks and learn more about wildlife and sustainable food.
The shop opens Wednesday to Sunday and sells organic fruit and vegetables, bread, cheese and groceries. People can also enjoy a tea or coffee to take away.
Libby said: “Everyone is very passionate about this.”
Wilde & Greene at Longwood Farm is on The Green at Tuddenham. It opens from 9 am to 5 pm Wednesday to Friday and on Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm and Sunday 10 am to 4pm.
