A grandmother who was unable to take on a daredevil challenge has praised her son and grandsons for stepping in to take her place in aid of a children’s charity.

Sheila Brown, 80, of Bury St Edmunds, who has been a dedicated fund-raiser for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) for many years, was due to do a parachute jump in 2012 for the charity but had to pull out due to health issues.

Now her son Stuart, 59, and five grandsons Daniel, 28; Jamie, 25; Nick, 25; Luke, 22 and Sam, 20, have decided to take part in a skydive for her in aid of EACH on July 26 at Beccles Airfield.

Mrs Brown said: “I was bitterly disappointed when I was told I couldn’t do the skydive but I’m thrilled the six of my family members have agreed to do it for me. I didn’t even have to ask they just volunteered.

“It’s taken a while to organise as Sam is a Royal Marine and has just come home after serving aboard HMS Bulwark in the Mediterranean and Daniel and Jamie live in Southampton.

“I’m so delighted to have them all together doing the skydive and hope we can raise as much as possible for EACH.” The skydive will not only mark Shelia and her husband Ronalds’ 80th birthdays but also their diamond wedding which they celebrated in April.

Hannah Walker, EACH Suffolk fund-raiser, said: “We’d like to wish Shelia’s son and grandson lots of luck on their skydive in July. The amount of dedication Shelia has shown to EACH over her many years of fundraising is tremendous and we are thrilled her family have chosen to continue to support us with this next event.”
