Family and friends support WSH unit that helped Michael

The family of a retired fireman Michael Zarych have said thank you to West Suffolk Hospital’s Critical Care Unit for the care they gave him before he died in June.

They presented the unit with a £2,800 cheque from donations made at his funeral and afterwards by family, friends and former colleagues.

Michael, who would have been 66 today, was a London fireman for 30 years before retiring to Felsham with his wife Moira, where he became an active member of the community.

His son Jon said: “The support Dad received from the Critical Care Unit was second to none.

“It was very difficult to keep coming back to the hospital for the four weeks but they made sure they looked after us as well.

“Dad was a valued member of the community in Felsham, a very loving father and grandfather, and very funny and super-intelligent man.

“We were so touched by the amount of people who knew him and instead of wasting money on flowers at his funeral we wanted to donate to the hospital unit that looked after him so that others may benefit from our loss. He’d be so proud.”
