A special event to celebrate the Brecks region was attended by almost 2,000 people last weekend.

Enchanted Heath saw families enjoying a host of activities at West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village and surrounding country park including storytelling, craft workshops and performances by Wulfingas 450-550 AD re-enactment society.

The free event was a collaboration between St Edmundsbury Borough Council, West Suffolk College, Rojo Art and the Friends of West Stow in conjunction with the Breaking New Ground Project.

The Hertage Lottery Funded project aims to raise awareness of the Brecks, a unique area of British landscape stretching across both Norfolk and Suffolk which is home to a distinct range of flora, fauna, wildlife and a rich social heritage.

During the evening, families who had pre–booked were also able to go on a specially lit trail around the park to see West Stow’s new Beowulf and Grendel Adventure trail, which is currently being constructed at the park.

The lighting by St Edmundsbury Theatre Services left many visitors enchanted.

“The village was busy all day with activities including crafts and also archery,” said West Stow heritage officer, Glynis Baxter.

“The general reaction to the evening trail around the park, was simply: wow!”
