‘Dude Where’s My Car?’ - Red Lodge man finds his missing VW Golf in shopping centre car park after public appeal

A party-goer who forgot where he parked his car after a boozy Halloween bash in Norwich two weeks ago has found his vehicle following a public appeal.

James Boyett, 31, from Red Lodge, parked his maroon VW Golf for the nightclub party at Mercy but did not remember exactly where he parked his car.

After staying the night at a friend’s house, he got a taxi to drive him around the area to search for his car but couldn’t find it.

He then spent the next two days trying to retrace his route in scenes reminiscent of the classic buddy comedy Dude Where’s My Car but was unable to find the elusive automobile.

The delivery driver made another four failed trips to look for the 16-year-old motor he relies on for work.

After James made a media appeal for help, kind shopping centre worker Gordon Hopcroft contacted him to say he’d found the car in Car Park 2 of the Castle Mall in Norwich.

The dad-of-two James was due to pick up the vehicle today and is likely to have a hefty release fee waiting for him.

On Friday, James revealed he faced losing his job if he could not find his car.

He said: “I wasn’t going to drink until I got to the after party, I wanted to drive my car and it’s a hell of a walk to get to Mercy.

“My phone told me I was at Mercy at 3 o’clock in the morning so I thought it must be there.

“The next day I got a taxi there to UEA and I was like, ‘where the hell is my car’?

“I thought this is not a joke’.

“It’s got to be out there unless it’s been stolen.

“I didn’t want to report it stolen in case it wasn’t stolen.

“I’ve got hold of the parking people at the pay and display and they’ve sent a message out but they don’t connect to the multi-stories.

“I don’t know where the CCTVs are but they must have seen it somewhere.

“My job’s on the line, literally. I’m a delivery driver in that car.

“I don’t know what to do, I’m actually borrowing my bosses car but his wife needs the car all the time.

“I know he loves me to pieces but I’ve got no other option.

“I’ve been back up there four times with friends but this has been late at night and there’s loads of cars, it’s really busy at night-time after work.

“Then it’s got late and they’ve wanted to get to bed, I’ve given them a bit towards fuel because it’s wasting their time.

“I’m going to stop going out if this is what happens to me,” he said.

“It’s funny in a way, people are like how the hell did you do that?

“Most people will laugh at me but you get all sorts of people that are going to think different things.

“We’ve all had a giggle about it and Dude Where’s My Car, it’s only me that could do something like that, everyone knows me and I’m quite funny but this has just made it even worse.

“My fiancee wants to stay out of it, she thinks I’m an embarrassment, she thinks it’s funny in a way.”
