Suffolk drivers report long queues for fuel as Just Stop Oil protests continue

Drivers in Suffolk have reported closed forecourts and long queues for petrol as climate protests at major oil depots continue.

Climate activism groups Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion have joined forced to block key terminals across the country in protest of the environmental impact of oil and gas.

The action groups hope to disrupt fuel supplies to London and the South East of England and have vowed they will continue the protest until new fossil fuel investments are halted by central Government.

Motorists hoping to buy petrol at the Bury St Edmunds Tesco store on St Saviour's Interchange have been greeted by a sign saying; 'No Unleaded' since Monday.

There were also long queues at the store this morning for diesel.

Supplies have also been affected at Tesco in Sudbury for several days but it is understood a delivery was made this morning.

Asda and some Sainsbury's stores are also understood to have been affected.

The British Retail Consortium said retailers will do “everything they can” to stabilise supplies.

Motorists first took to social media reporting queues for petrol across the south East including Ipswich, Colchester and Essex, Woodbridge, Felixstowe and Norwich.

A spokesperson from the UK Petroleum Industry Association said most terminals remain unaffected.

Tesco and Asda have been been approached for comment.
