Drink driver from Great Finborough crashed into car while being chased by police

A drink driver from Great Finborough who collided with a car while being chased by police been warned by a judge he may be jailed.

Christopher Mayes, 36, of Boundary Cottages, pleaded guilty on Tuesday, September 8, at Ipswich Crown Court to a charge of dangerous driving.

The court heard how on February 22, Mayes had been spotted by police officers in Stowmarket who then began to follow him.

Marc Brown, prosecuting, said Mayes was chased down St Edmunds Road, through Kingsmead Road and Silverdale Avenue, then down Windermere Road, Onehouse Road, Union Road and Starhouse Lane before finally being chased along Finborough Road.

During the chase Mayes, who was at the time subject to a driving ban, had collided with another car.

When he was finally stopped he was found to be over the drink drive limit, said Mr Brown.

The court heard that Mayes had two previous convictions for drink-driving offences.

Appearing for Mayes, Matthew Sorel-Cameron said it was accepted that his client had a poor driving record.

Mayes had two young children and was a full-time carer for his elderly mother, the court heard.

Judge David Goodin adjourned sentencing until next month and warned Mayes that it was possible he would receive a prison sentence.

Judge Goodin ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report by the Probation Service.
