Residents of a cul-de-sac and their county councillor say Suffolk Highways has abandoned their road.

Several residents of Minden Drive, Bury St Edmunds, have reported numerous potholes but say nothing has been done there for years.

Their county councillor David Nettleton feels cul-de-sacs are being ignored because money is short and has called for a repair policy review with a rolling programme of repairs for minor roads.

Faith Baptist, who has lived in Minden Drive for 20 years, wrote to Cllr Nettleton for help. She said: "There have always been small areas of defects in the road, but it's now got ridiculous–it's almost impossible to avoid the holes.

"The turning circle is in an appalling condition but there are faults all along the road. They aren't being filled and therefore it's being exacerbated.

"Considering how much we're paying in council tax, nothing seems to be done."

Cllr Nettleton said: "Highways has to priorities but they're only doing A and B roads so they've abandoned cul-de-sacs.

"These people pay the same level of council tax as everyone else, but their road is not considered worthy of maintenance.

"We need a rolling programme of repairs. They're doing cheap repairs and it's not working â it needs a policy review."

A Suffolk Highways spokesman, said:"When developing our resurfacing and surface dressing plan for the season, a range of factors are considered; such as the amount of defects and their severity, as well as the location and volume of traffic using the road.

"We assess the conditions of all roads across the entire Suffolk network, and take all of these factors into account."
