His trial was due to start on July 29.

However, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) offered no evidence and the case was concluded under a not guilty verdict as part of the Section 17 Criminal Justice Act 1967.

A CPS spokesman said: "Sexual offences involving children are taken seriously by the CPS and we work in partnership with Suffolk Constabulary to bring offenders to justice.

"We have a duty to continuously review all our cases and following careful consideration of the file of evidence, we concluded our test for proceeding with the prosecution was not met.

"On Thursday, June 27 2019 in Ipswich Crown Court we offered no evidence.

"Our duty is to bring offenders to justice wherever possible and where there is sufficient evidence for us to prosecute and it is in the public interest, we will always seek to do so."
