Countess of Euston is Suffolk’s new Lord-Lieutenant

Suffolk’s new Lord-Lieutenant is Clare, Countess of Euston, the Queen announced yesterday.

Lady Euston takes over from Lord Tollemache following his retirement on December 13.

Lady Euston has a long record of service to some of the most vulnerable in society. She has served as deputy chair of the Suffolk Community Foundation, chairman of St Nicholas Hospice, president of Age Concern Suffolk and vice-president of the Foundation for People with Learning Difficulties.

She has also chaired the Suffolk Strategic Partnership Board and is currently president of the Suffolk Agricultural Association. She breeds Suffolk Punch horses and red poll cattle.

Lady Euston lives near Thetford in West Suffolk and has one son, the Duke of Grafton, and four daughters.

The Lord-Lieutenants are the Queen’s official representative in each county and can fly a flag which comprises the Union Flag superimposed with a crown and a sword. They were first appointed by Henry VIII.
