West Suffolk Council cabinet announces it will now meet in Mildenhall as well as Bury St Edmunds in public outreach effort

West Suffolk Council has announced its cabinet will be meeting in Mildenhall as well as Bury St Edmunds in the future, as part of a bid to broaden the body’s agenda and improve relations with smaller communities.

The first ever public meeting of the cabinet, on June 13, was held in Mildenhall.

This follows an invitation for senior figures to meet local councillors in their wards.

Members of the public can attend cabinet meetings, and it is hoped that rotating between Bury and Mildenhall will give the public great opportunities to observe and engage with representatives.

The council’s leader, Cllr Cliff Waterman, said: “I am pleased that we have met publicly for the first time as a cabinet, and been able to take action and start immediately on our priorities.

“We have agreed the setting up of the West Suffolk Environment and Sustainability Working Group in our ambitious drive to tackle climate change.

“Cabinet was held in Mildenhall, and will be held there again, as well as Bury St Edmunds as part of our proactive work to make sure residents across West Suffolk have better access to open democracy.

“As part of that work, I have also in my Leader’s Statement invited councillors to meet me and cabinet members in their ward to understand the issues and opportunities they have in their area.”
