Club manager ‘has no plans for lap dancing’
The manager of the Maltings in Stowmarket says he has no plans for striptease or burlesque nights at the venue after a new licence was granted.
A report to Mid Suffolk District Council’s licencing committee ahead of a committee meeting on Monday said the venue could host pole dancing, striptease, lap dancing and burlesque nights on an infrequent basis.
On Monday, Mid Suffolk District Council approved a new licence for The Mill Bar and Grill and Carbon Nightclub which technically allows for 11 adult entertainment nights a year.
But manager Clive Crowe says this is simply a loophole in the regulations and that the venue has no plans for adult nights.
He said: “We have no plans for future lap dancing nights.
“It is just a basic subsection of the law in case a hen do wants to bring along a stripper for the evening.”
The new licence means The Mill Bar and Grill can remain open until 2.30am with Carbon Nightclub open until 3.30am on fridays and Saturdays.
Following the meeting Mr Crowe said he was glad the licence had been accepted.
However, Mr Crowe said he had now contacted Mid Suffolk District Council to challenge a decision on hot food being served from a burger hatch outside the club.
He said a hatch selling burgers after the venue stops serving would help feed and relocate its punters, rather than them walking through the town in search of a snack.
He said: “I have written to the relevant authorities to address this. We want to work with them to find a solution.”
