Sainsbury’s café in Bury St Edmunds to close next week
The closing date for a town’s supermarket café has been revealed as part of a major overhaul of the chain’s operations.
Sainsbury's in Bury St Edmunds has revealed that its café will close on Friday, April 11.
The closure follows the announcement earlier this year that Sainsbury’s would shut 61 of its in-store cafés across the UK — including the one at Warren Heath Superstore in Ipswich.
The closing date for the Ipswich café has not yet been confirmed.
In January, Sainsbury’s announced plans to cut over 3,000 jobs due to most customers rarely using the cafés, the retailer said.
The decision to close the cafés represents about two per cent of the supermarket's workforce which stands at 148,000 employees.
The move will also result in a 20 per cent reduction in senior management roles as part of efforts to streamline operations and simplify the supermarket's head office and management teams.
