A Christmas party for lonely, elderly people ended up with a surplus of Christmas food after no-one turned up at the event.

Organiser Barbara Bonner-Morgan found herself with the uneaten fare and has presented to it to Stowmarket’s Salvation Army where it will be enjoyed at its lunch club on Tuesday.

It is thought that transport to The Maypole at Wetherden which was hosting the party was an issue although the ‘mother Christmas party’ was well supported by villagers in Elmswell, Haughley, Stowupland and Wetherden who donated the frozen meals. It is hoped to repeat the event.
