Changes planned to entrance of former Debenhams in Bury St Edmunds at arc shopping centre

Changes have been drawn up for the entrance of the former Debenhams in Bury St Edmunds ahead of a potential new retailer moving in.

A planning amendment has been submitted by CBRE Investment Management to make minor changes to the main shop front entrance providing access to the ground and first floors in the empty store at the arc shopping centre.

An application to West Suffolk Council said the work would 'meet the operational requirements of the proposed occupier of the ground and first floors'.

The changes include slightly reducing the width of the entrance and a drawing shows two glazed doors set within an aluminium panel surround.

An area for signage is shown but advertisement consent would need to be sought by the tenant.

Planning documents over a servicing plan for the former Debenhams previously revealed that terms had been agreed with an unnamed high street retailer to occupy the ground and first floors of the empty shop.

An acoustic assessment for an Everyman Cinema in the basement of the building had made reference to a Primark.

It said: "To the above of the demise is proposed to be a Primark shopping centre."

Last month, Allan Hassell, manager of the arc shopping centre, said they were unable to comment on speculation.

Plans for the cinema were approved last week.

It would feature four screens and a smaller screen for private hire with 306 seats in total.
