Covid-19 causing coronavirus illustrated by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has produced a detailed illustration of what the current pandemic's coronavirus looks like.
The picture, produced by CDC - Alissa Eckert, MS; Dan Higgins, MAMS shows what the virus would look like if magnified enough to see every detail.
Aspects of the virus such as its structural morphology, including the 'spikes' on its surface from which its name derives, are clearly shown.
These are used to bind to proteins once it enters a host, helping it to invade cells.
At the time of writing, there are more than one million known cases worldwide.
