Carers who make a difference

Those who go the extra mile caring for people in Suffolk were recognised at the first Suffolk Care Awards staged at Kesgrave Hall in Ipswich.

Among the accolades handed out was praise for leadership, training and motivation. ClarkeCare based at Nowton Court Village won the award for excellent person centred training with Stowcare in Stowmarket highly recommended.

ClarkeCare was also highly commended in the team award. Katy Hughes from Mildenhall Lodge was awarded for her motivational leadership with Care UK. Staff praised the leadership and improvements made under her watch.

Life Resolutions in Stowmarket won the award for student placement with recognition for its encouragement of students to work closely with service users, providing students with real life work experiences.

Brandon Park Nursing Home was highly commended for promoting dignity and respect while Stowlangtoft Hall Care Home was highly commended for its food and catering offer.

It was also highly commended for end of life care along with the National Autistic Society’s Middlefield Manor, Barton Mills.

The Partnership in Care based in Bury St Edmunds was highly commended in the culture, creativity and activities award section for the way its care homes are run.

David Muded from the National Autistic Society New Barns in Mildenhall was highly commended in the special recognition award after helping a service user plan a trip of a lifetime to attend a relative’s funeral.

Hosting the evening were The Suffolk Brokerage and Suffolk Association of Independent Care Providers.

Suffolk Brokerage’s Liz Taylor said: “We’ve always been aware of excellent care in Suffolk and the awards prove we have a lot to be proud of.”
