Bury St Edmunds care home residents come together for air ambulance

The residents of a Bury St Edmunds care home have put their best feet forward to help raise funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA).

All 55 residents of Cornwallis Court have been taking part in the charity’s 2,000 mile virtual run, called Together We Run, by walking one mile each.

Among the residents walking a mile were 96-year-old D-Day veteran and former Royal Marine Commando Fred Tuck and 100-year-old former champion fencer Jean Wood.

Emma Gibson, home activities coordinator, said: “It is proving to be a great way for our residents to keep active in a safe, supported environment.

“And what’s really important to us is that we have found a way for everyone here to be involved. We’re proud to be supporting East Anglian Air Ambulance and would urge others to join in and support this vital charity.”

Participants had three routes around the home that its staff had organised for the challenge.

Some walked independently, while others were assisted in their wheelchairs by staff members and those who were unable to take part had staff nominated to run or walk their miles for them.

Lucy Clarke, events fund-raiser at the EAAA, said: “Together We Run has offered something new to our supporters this year.

“The challenge, whether it’s a mile or a marathon, is personal to everyone taking part. Cornwallis Court have really captured the team element of the event, demonstrating that every mile really does count.”
