Bury St Edmunds Christmas tree hit by by car and collapses




A car has collided with and knocked over the Christmas tree on Angel Hill in Bury St Edmunds - just hours after it was put up.

Mark Cordell, chief executive of Our Bury St Edmunds, said the car had collided with the tree at about 3.30pm.

The tree, from Rougham Estates, was put up this morning by Our Bury St Edmunds.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said one ambulance attended the collision.

He said: "One woman was transported to West Suffolk Hospital for further assessment and care."

A Suffolk Police spokesman said they were called shortly after 3.50pm to the collision involving a Toyota Starlet.

He said the council were made aware the tree was down and recovery of the vehicle was completed.

Mr Cordell said the tree needed to be examined before a decision could be made as to whether it can be put back up.
