Cancer sufferer to hold fund-raiser on Bury St Edmunds market

A well-known Bury St Edmunds trader has organised a fund-raising event in the town’s marketplace tomorrow.

Geoff Hunt, who has been running a stall on the market for more than 30 years, was diagnosed with cancer last week.

But he has decided to turn his diagnosis into something positive by having his head shaved for charity – rather than wait for his hair to fall out through chemotherapy.

“They told me I’m going to lose my hair so I thought I may as well as do it for Macmillan Cancer,” said Mr Hunt, who beat throat cancer two years ago but is now battling a form of stomach cancer.

The head shave will take place at 11.30am beside Mr Hunt’s stall, which sells general tools, hardware, gardening tools and houseware, and is sited just outside Starbucks.

The 53-year-old father-of-two, who has raised £1,300 since Thursday, is hoping to attract a lot of support tomorrow.

“No-one knows when they might need help, so I hope to see a good turn out” he said.
