Comedian Ian Moore looks forward to hosting Bury Free Business Awards on October 11
The Bury Free Press Business Awards are just three weeks away and our host, stand up comedian Ian Moore, is looking forward to getting the party started on the night.
Travelling to Bury St Edmunds from his home in rural France especially for the event, Ian said he was excited to return to a part of the world he knows quite well.
“There’s a special angle involved with these awards because I spent some of my childhood in King’s Lynn and so visited a lot while I was there,” said Ian, who was born in Blackburn.
“It will be lovely to come back to somewhere that, even though I only lived there between the ages of seven and 11, still brings back that warm feeling of being a child.”
And Ian, who as well as doing stand up has written three books and does various corporate events, is looking forward to having the chance to celebrate the businesses which have been recognised in this year’s awards.
“I like doing these kinds of events because everybody works really hard day to day and this is a chance for them to let their hair down a bit,” he said.
“Everybody likes to be rewarded for the work they do and that’s what these events do so I think they are quite important.”
He added that the audience on the night can expect a bit of everything from him.
“There will be some local knowledge and of course a bit of fun,” he said.
“The idea is just to make sure everyone enjoys themselves and doesn’t take the night too seriously. Sometimes people can be a bit frightened of letting themselves go but I’m going to try and push that a little bit and get a more relaxed feel.”
But even Ian can’t get away from feeling some nerves on the day.
“You learn from doing events like this that the one thing you care about is making sure you turn up on time,” he said.
“That’s my first ambition, especially when you think of all that could go wrong on the way over from France. It can be quite a stressful first goal so at least everything will be better from there!”
